In 1952, Jacqueline Bouvier met John F. Kennedy, a young congressman from Massachusetts. They were married in 1953. Jacqueline became the First Lady of the United States in 1961, when JFK was elected president.

As First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy was a role model for women around the world. She was known for her beauty, her style, and her intelligence. She also worked to promote the arts and culture.

Loss and Tragedy

In November 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Jacqueline Kennedy was devastated by her husband's death. She became a single mother to her two children, Caroline and John Jr.

In 1968, Jacqueline Kennedy married Aristotle Onassis. Onassis was a wealthy Greek shipping magnate. The marriage was controversial, but Jacqueline Kennedy said that she married Onassis because she needed someone to protect her and her children.

Onassis died of cancer in 1975. Jacqueline Kennedy was once again a widow. She devoted herself to her children and her work.

Legacy

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis died of cancer in 1994. She was 64 years old. She is buried next to President Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery.
