McEnroe, a brash and talented American, was the reigning Wimbledon champion and the world's top-ranked player. Borg, a cool and collected Swede, was a five-time Wimbledon champion and a former world No. 1.

McEnroe won seven Grand Slam singles titles during his career, including three Wimbledon titles and four US Open titles. He was also a member of the United States Davis Cup team that won the Davis Cup in 1978 and 1979.

McEnroe retired from professional tennis in 1992. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999.

Björn Borg

Björn Borg was born in Södertälje, Sweden, in 1956. He began playing tennis at the age of 9 and quickly rose through the ranks of junior tennis. In 1973, he turned professional and quickly became one of the top players in the world.

Borg was a gifted athlete with a powerful topspin forehand and a solid backhand. He was also known for his calm demeanor and his ability to play his best tennis under pressure.

Borg won 11 Grand Slam singles titles during his career, including five Wimbledon titles and six French Open titles. He was also a member of the Swedish Davis Cup team that won the Davis Cup in 1975 and 1978.

Borg retired from professional tennis in 1983. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987.

The 1980 Wimbledon Final
