A Humble Beginning
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Elias and Flora, were poor immigrants who struggled to make ends meet. Walt had four siblings, and the family lived in a modest home.
From a young age, Walt showed a passion for art and drawing. He would spend hours sketching and creating his own cartoons. He was also a talented performer, and he loved to make his family laugh.
When Walt was 10, his family moved to Marceline, Missouri. It was here that he began to develop his love for nature and the outdoors. He would spend hours exploring the woods behind his house, and he would often draw the animals and plants that he saw.
The Birth of a Dream
In 1917, Walt's family moved to Kansas City. He enrolled in the Kansas City Art Institute, but he dropped out after only a few months. He felt that he could learn more by working on his own.
Walt began working as a commercial artist, and he quickly gained a reputation for his talent. He also started experimenting with animation. In 1923, he created his first animated film, "Alice's Wonderland."
"Alice's Wonderland" was a success, and it helped Walt to launch his career as an animator. He went on to create a series of successful animated films, including "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" and "Mickey Mouse."
The Disney Empire
In 1926, Walt Disney and his brother Roy founded the Walt Disney Company. The company went on to become one of the most successful entertainment companies in the world.
