Momcilo Gavric was born in Serbia in 1906. He was a farmer and a family man when World War II broke out in 1939. Gavric joined the Yugoslav army and fought against the invading German forces. In 1941, he was captured by the Germans and sent to a concentration camp.

Gavric spent two years in the concentration camp, enduring unimaginable hardships. He was starved, beaten, and tortured. But he never gave up hope. In 1943, he managed to escape from the camp and make his way back to Serbia.

After the war, Gavric wrote a book about his experiences in the concentration camp. The book, titled "A Prisoner's Song," became a bestseller and was translated into several languages.
